Views on Ventura City Council Race

* I wish Ventura City Council candidate Brian Lee Rencher luck in the upcoming elections. I hope one day he will have his hopes and dreams fulfilled.

* As Venturans prepare to go to the polls to elect a new City Council, may they consider this: Carl Morehouse and Brian Brennan have demonstrated leadership and commitment to civic duties, and I believe their election to the council will benefit all Venturans.

Morehouse holds numerous important qualifications. He is well-educated in local government issues and holds a master’s in public administration and urban planning. For many years, he has served as the director for the central coast section of the American Planning Assn.; a professional organization dedicated to better city and regional planning. A resident of the Central Coast and Ventura County for nearly 15 years, he is well-versed on the environmental, economic, and governance issues facing Venturans and has worked tirelessly to improve planning and land-use decision-making in our community. He recently organized the successful Livable Cities conference, bringing more than 75 planners from around the region to our community to learn about improving quality of life.

In the brief time I have known Brennan, I have been greatly impressed with his strong commitment to community and quality-of-life issues. A driving force behind the ongoing success of the Ventura County Chapter of Surfriders, Brennan has been at the forefront in the movement to protect our environment while enhancing the business climate in Ventura.

His strong communication skills and innate skill at connecting to a broad spectrum of people will ensure that he will be an important consensus builder. Like Morehouse, Brennan has strong planning credentials, serving as Susan Lacey’s appointee to the Ventura County Planning Commission.

On Nov. 4, vote for good planning and good government for Ventura. Vote for Carl Morehouse and Brian Brennan.
