Ron Shapiro has been promoted to executive vice president and general manager of New York-based Atlantic Records, the No. 1 record label in the U.S., which accounts for more than 8% of the domestic market so far this year in sales of current albums.

Shapiro, 33, joined the Time Warner-owned label just four years ago as a publicist and is credited with helping transform unknown folk singer Jewel into an international pop star.
