Xircom Posts 4th-Quarter Net Loss of $12.8 Million

Thousand Oaks-based Xircom Inc. reported a net loss of $12.8 million for its fourth quarter, compared with a net income of $2.8 million a year earlier.

The manufacturer of communication equipment posted sales for the three months that ended Sept. 30 of $20.9 million, down 57% from $49.1 million a year earlier.

For the year, Xircom posted a net loss of $9.9 million, compared with a net income of $6 million in 1996. Revenue for the year was $184.6 million, up 11% from $166.8 million a year ago.

“While not truly reflected in our financial performance, our achievements in fiscal 1997 have resulted in a more aggressive, action-oriented company poised to take advantage of the strong growth opportunity offered by the mobile-networking market,” said CEO Dirk Gates.
