Exploring Wild Life for Hospital Benefit

Share

Five hundred guests got a taste of safari adventure when they attended the Journey to the Forbidden Temple benefit Saturday for the Anaheim Memorial Medical Center.

Faux serpents crawled along the stone entrance to the reception area at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim. As guests sipped cocktails, they could hear the screeches of live macaws. Boa constrictors--coiled in their trainers’ arms--were available for petting.

Guests enjoyed gourmet fare in a ballroom where foliage dangled from the ceiling and lifelike jungle animals hid in shrubbery. After dessert, an African dance troupe entertained.

Gross proceeds of about $125,000 will go toward the center’s new Cardiovascular Center of Excellence, headed by Dr. Joseph Ruggio.

“Anaheim has a high incidence of

heart disease compared to other cities in California,” said Gayle Youngs, spokeswoman for the Foundation of Anaheim Memorial Medical Center.

“That’s why Anaheim Memorial wants to give this center to the community.”
