Some people were pleased to see the giant sand berms being built along the beach in preparation of expected heavy winter storms. Others weren’t so happy, saying the berms are unsightly.

Both sides will get a chance to express their views at a meeting tonight with city officials, who will discuss the berm and other preparations for the El Nino weather system expected to produce heavy storms.

Don Webb, the city’s public works director, said the city deposited the 8-foot wall of sand along the shore through west Newport Beach because heavy storms in years past have flooded beachfront homes in that area.
