Protective Fencing Urged for Railroad Tracks
In light of the tragedy last week in Upland when two toddlers were killed by a Metrolink commuter train, a community forum will be held today in South-Central Los Angeles urging that the freight train tracks that run along Slauson Avenue be fenced off to prevent similar incidents, organizers said.
“We need to do something about this before something serious happens,” said Brenda Marsh of the Brotherhood Crusade. “We have had young people hurt here, too. This is ridiculous. They need to improve the safety conditions with a fence or at least some safety netting.”
Assemblyman Kevin Murray (D-Los Angeles), City Councilwoman Rita Walters and county Supervisor Yvonne Brathwaite-Burke are among those expected to attend the 8 a.m. forum at the Brotherhood Crusade headquarters, 200 E. Slauson Ave.
