Laguna Hills Finally Beats Laguna Beach
Jessica Prause swept in singles, 6-1, 6-2, 6-0, as Laguna Hills edged Laguna Beach on games, 78-68, in a Pacific Coast League match Tuesday at Laguna Hills. The victory is the Hawks’ first over the Artists in eight years.
Laguna Hills (13-5, 5-2) almost defeated the Artists earlier this season. That match also was tied, 9-9, with the Artists winning on games.
The teams are tied for second behind University (12-3, 6-0).
In the Century League:
No. 4 Villa Park 17, Orange 1--Katey Becker didn’t lose a game in three sets for Villa Park (12-2, 7-0).
Foothill 12, El Modena 6--Dinusha Weerakkody and Sara Watson swept their doubles opponents, 6-0, 6-0, 6-2, for Foothill (12-3, 6-1). El Modena is 3-4 in league.
In the Freeway League:
Sunny Hills 12, Sonora 6--Jessica Yu swept her opponents, 6-1, 6-2, 6-0, to help Sunny Hills (9-6, 6-2) defeat Sonora (2-6).
In the Garden Grove League:
Garden Grove 15, Bolsa Grande 3--The doubles team of Jaime Kong and Cynthia Tran didn’t lose a game in three sets for Garden Grove (16-2, 10-0). Linh Nguyen won her singles sets, 6-3, 7-6, 6-1, for Bolsa Grande (2-8 in league).
In the Golden West League:
Rosary 14, Saddleback 4--The doubles team of Grace Jan and Laila Derakhshanian won their sets, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, for Rosary (12-4, 8-0).
Tustin 13, Ocean View 5--No. 3 doubles partners Mariana O’Campo and Sok Cheng swept their opponents, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2, to help the Tillers (12-3, 7-1) defeat Ocean View (5-3).
In the Orange League:
Brea Olinda 17, Western 4--Kelly Scanlan swept in singles for Brea Olinda (16-3, 9-0). Scanlan teamed with Amanda Manton to win in doubles.
In the Sea View League:
Santa Margarita 10, Irvine 8--Erin Miller swept her singles opponents, 6-1, 6-0, 6-1, to help the Eagles to victory over the Vaqueros (4-12, 1-7). The No. 1 doubles team of Alice Chen and Daisy Wen from Irvine swept their opponents, 6-2, 6-2, 6-2.
In the South Coast League:
No. 2 Dana Hills 14, Capistrano Valley 4--Amber Tantee swept in singles, 7-6, 6-4, 6-0, and Christi Manning and Chelsey Thompson won, 6-3, 6-1, 6-2, in doubles for Dana Hills (16-1, 7-0).
No. 6 Mater Dei 17, Mission Viejo 1--Jodie Nygaard swept in singles, 6-2, 6-4, 7-5, and Lauren Thomas and Elena Klau swept in doubles, 6-2, 6-3, 6-0, for Mater Dei (10-4, 6-1).
San Clemente 14, Trabuco Hills 4--Debby Caine and Sarah Melton swept in doubles, 6-2, 7-6, 6-2, in a victory for San Clemente (5-8, 2-5). Amanda Engle swept in singles for the Tritons, 6-2, 6-2, 6-0.
In the Sunset League:
No. 7 Los Alamitos 15, Marina 3--Sanaz Meshkinpour swept in singles, 6-1, 6-1, 6-1, for Los Alamitos (10-4, 8-0).
