Shop Cuts the Cost of Top-Quality Dress Designs for the Bridal Party

SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

With holiday-season weddings coming up, it’s a wise mother of the bride (or groom) who heads for the Alley in the Valley where a store called Dressed Up can handle attire for just about any special occasion.

Current designs from major names--some of which I can’t mention--are priced 20% below retail, which can be a sizable savings. Deduct 20% from a layered lace dress that retails for $660 and it’s only $528.

For the bride and her maids, figure 20% off designs from Jim Hjelm, Victoria, Precious Formal, Bari Jay, Waters & Waters and Bianci--in sizes from 2 to 26. Special orders get the same reduction.

But the real deal at Dressed Up is the markdown room, where many of the big labels wind up. As of today, the markdown prices are 75% off the retail price.

One popular design, perfect for a mother of the bride or groom, or for a second walk down the aisle, retails for $300. Priced here at $240, it flew out the door in certain colors. The unpopular colors, however, ended up in the markdown room for $150. Today that price will drop to $75. Odds and ends also get moved to the markdown room.

“If a piece doesn’t move in a month, it’s moved to the markdown room so the flow is constant,” says owner Michael Weintraub.
