Van Raaphorst Is Ready to Snap to It

With Coach John Robinson saying he’ll name a starting quarterback today and Mike Van Raaphorst still getting more snaps in practice, John Fox was more open about his feelings after declining interviews the day before.

“It’s just about business. The last three games I haven’t played well. They’re not playing favorites. It’s their decision on how to go,” Fox said.

A sophomore, Fox has started all seven games, completing 55% of his passes for an average of 193 yards a game, with seven touchdowns and five interceptions, and Robinson has called him “erratic” recently.

Van Raaphorst, a redshirt freshman, has appeared in four games, completing four of seven passes for 44 yards.

Robinson said both quarterbacks will play, but said he wouldn’t be afraid to start Van Raaphorst at Washington.

Said Van Raaphorst: “It’s all up to the coaches. It’s their decision. There’s nothing I can do about it except be ready to play.”

Senior fullback Rodney Sermons had lost his starting position to redshirt freshman Ted Iacenda, but he made the most of his return last week, scoring two touchdowns.

“I took a back seat a lot of games,” said Sermons, who is scheduled to start again Saturday. “When I got my chance, I wanted to find the end zone.”

Iacenda is being held to limited practice time because of a shoulder injury, but he says he can play if needed.

LaVale Woods has started to run on his troublesome right ankle injury, and might start practicing next week after sitting out five weeks.

“I think it would be great if he makes it back for the Oregon State game,” Robinson said.
