Liquor License Revoked for Sales to Minors

Authorities revoked the liquor license of a Covina market Thursday for what officials said were repeated and blatant sales of alcoholic beverages to minors.

Clerks at Jay’s Market on North Glendora Avenue in Covina were caught selling alcohol to minors eight times in the last three years, according to a spokesman for the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

The most recent infraction occurred in March 1997, said department spokesman Carl DeWing. At that time, the market’s owner, Son Suk Rhee, 60, of Los Angeles, was appealing two previous sales to minors violations, officials said.

In July, ABC officials obtained a court injunction to prevent further sales of alcohol at the market until a judicial decision was handed down on the department’s previous accusations.
