Trail With Access for Handicapped Opens

A quarter-mile nature trail that is accessible to people in wheelchairs or who are blind has been added to Culver City Park, officials said Thursday.

The six-foot-wide wooden pathway, built to conform to standards of the Americans With Disabilities Act, slopes gently uphill from the park’s lower level to the playing fields above, said Erin Cammann of the city’s Human Services Department.

Construction on the $250,000 project began in April, said project manager John Wolitarsky. The park has been open for a month.

“The whole idea was to create a setting where all individuals in the city could take advantage of [the park],” said Wolitarsky.

A dedication ceremony is scheduled Sunday at 3 p.m. The park is located at Jefferson Boulevard and Duquesne Avenue.
