Coverage of Diana’s Funeral
NEW YORK — Princess Diana’s funeral Saturday will be broadcast live by the major television networks in the United States, with most starting coverage before dawn.
The ceremony at Westminster Abbey begins at 11 a.m. in London, which is 3 a.m. in Los Angeles. CNN and Fox News Channel will begin coverage at 1 a.m. with ABC starting at 2 a.m. NBC will come on the air between 1 and 2 a.m. CBS plans to begin coverage at 2 a.m. NBC’s cable affiliate, MSNBC, plans to start at 9 p.m. Friday and run coverage all night.
Among special Diana programs planned this week:
* CBS will wrap up funeral coverage with a special anchored by Dan Rather at 8 p.m. Saturday.
* ABC’s Barbara Walters will host a special “20/20” edition Friday devoted largely to Diana.
