A group of Orthodox Jewish rabbis sued New York City’s Holocaust museum for using public funds to reflect non-Orthodox views, including memorializing homosexuals. Defendants in the suit, which was filed in Manhattan federal court, are the soon-to-be opened Museum of Jewish Heritage and the New York Holocaust Memorial Commission, which was appointed by former New York City Mayor Edward I. Koch. The plaintiffs, more than a dozen rabbis from Brooklyn and two Roman Catholics from the borough of Queens, alleged the use of public funds to commemorate only one religious group of Holocaust victims was unconstitutional.
