Angels to Honor Top Youth Teams

Several Orange County youth baseball and softball teams will be honored as part of a “Night of Champions” ceremony before tonight’s Angels-Kansas City Royals game at Anaheim Stadium.

Among the 10 teams from Southern California to be honored are the Central Orange Bobby Sox, winners of the 14-under national title; the Orange County Stars, 15- and 16-year-old Mickey Mantle World Series champions; the Placentia Mustangs, winners of the 12-under AAU national title; the Santa Ana USA Athletics Girls’ Softball Team, the 14-under fast-pitch national champions, and the North Mission Viejo Little League All-Stars, who were U.S. champions and World Series runners-up.

Pregame events begin at 6:30 p.m.

On Saturday, as part of “Hispanic Heritage Day” at Anaheim Stadium, the Guadalupe Little League team from Monterrey, Mexico, which won the Little League World Series championship, will be honored in pregame ceremonies beginning at 12:30 p.m.
