Meese Debate: Should flag burning be a crime? That’s one of the questions sure to arise when former Atty. Gen. Edwin Meese comes to Soka University next month to debate Nadine Strossen, president of the American Civil Liberties Union. It’s part of an arresting series of lectures at the Calabasas school. November’s topic: “Understanding the Politics of Hate: An Evening with Former White Supremacist Leader Tom Leyden.”

* SEASON OPENS: Notre Dame takes the field against Alemany in Sherman Oaks, kicking off the prep football season before a huge crowd and--a first for local high school football--a live TV audience.
