Tarango Reaches Final at Wilander Event
Top-seeded Jeff Tarango defeated Karel Novacek in straight sets Saturday to advance to the finals of the Mats Wilander Battle of the Beach tennis tournament at the Palisades Tennis Club in Newport Beach.
Tarango defeated the third-seeded Novacek, 6-3, 6-2.
Tarango will face Haiti’s Ronald Agenor, seeded fourth, in the finals at 1 p.m. today.
Agenor, who ousted former Mater Dei standout Adam Peterson in Friday’s quarterfinals, defeated unseeded Chris Ganz, 6-4, 6-1, in the semifinals.
Ganz had eliminated tournament host Mats Wilander, seeded second, in Friday’s quarterfinals.
