Brymer: Don’t Count Us Out Yet

Is 0-2 as good as over-and-out?

People at USC are saying it’s not--as rival UCLA proved when it came back from 0-2 to rout Texas.

“Everyone is going to be giving up on USC. Everybody is going to be jumping off the bandwagon,” said offensive lineman Chris Brymer, who watched the Washington State game from the sideline because of a foot injury. “Our team is waiting to break loose. Sooner or later, things are going to start clicking, and a lot of people are going to be surprised.”

With an open date Saturday, the Trojans are taking today off and will spend the rest of the week working on fundamentals before they prepare to play at California on Sept. 27.

“We can’t dwell on losing those two games. We’ve got to move on,” Brymer said. “There’s no way in hell we’re out of the Rose Bowl race. What we’ve got to do is concentrate on Cal.”

The Trojans don’t need the Pacific 10 Conference statistics to know their offense has been awful. But for the record, USC ranks last in three major categories:

* Rushing offense--28 yards a game;

* Total offense--229.5 yards a game;

* Scoring offense--14 points a game.
