Reputed Gang Member Sentenced in Shooting
A reputed 18th Street gang member was convicted of attempted murder Tuesday for trying to shoot a woman and her two friends because she allegedly owed money to the gang for drugs, authorities said.
Jose Mariscal, 23, was convicted by a Los Angeles Superior Court jury after about two hours of deliberations.
Mariscal was found guilty of three counts of attempted murder with special allegations that he used a firearm, that the April 20 shooting was premeditated and that it caused great bodily injury.
He faces up to three life prison terms when he is sentenced Oct. 16, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Michael Kraut.
Kraut said witnesses who testified against Mariscal have been relocated out of state.
