Council May Form Internal Audit Group

Share

City Council members are expected today to create an internal audit program designed to avoid the pitfalls alleged to have caused the continuing scandal with the city’s trash and recycling companies.

The new program would add two employees--an internal audit manager and an internal auditor--who would work with an audit committee.

The audit manager would report directly to the city manager and the audit committee, made up of city officials and three residents who are accountants, according to a staff report.

In a report, City Manager David L. Rudat said that the Internal Audit Division is needed because of the city’s increasing use of outside contractors.

The new positions will cost $178,000 this year and nearly $250,000 next year, according to the report.

The council will meet at 4:30 p.m. in City Hall, 300 E. Chapman Ave. Information: (714) 744-5500.
