Second Race Planned for Education Post
Orange County educational administrator Darrell Opp announced Tuesday that he will run again for county superintendent of education.
Opp lost a 1994 bid to unseat John F. Dean as head of the county Department of Education, garnering 44% of the vote.
Dean has not announced whether he will seek a third four-year term.
The superintendent’s responsibilities include approving budgets and providing curriculum support to local school districts.
Opp’s plans for the office included redistributing 10% of the department’s estimated $105-million annual budget to local school districts. Opp, 57, also supported English-immersion programs.
The election for superintendent will take place in June.
