Redevelopment Plan’s Impact to Be Discussed
A comprehensive report on how the planned redevelopment of the former Treasure Island Mobilehome Park will affect the environment will be presented to the city’s Planning Commission on Wednesday.
Engineers, a geotechnical expert and a biologist will be on hand to discuss the project, the largest redevelopment proposal pending in this city. Topics will include what impact the construction might have on the ocean bluff at the south end of town and the impact on tide pools.
“We are still in the phase of understanding the details of the project and the issues associated with the project,” Community Development Director Kyle Butterwick said Monday.
The landowner, a partnership headed by Merrill Lynch Hubbard, has submitted plans to build a 100-room hotel and as many as 97 homes at the site. As many as 50 of the homes could have multiple keys so they could be rented as additional hotel rooms when the owners are away.
Wednesday’s session will be the second in a series of public hearings on the subject. Others are scheduled for Oct. 8, 15 and 22.
