UCI Program Stresses Careers in Digital Arts
More public school students and teachers will be plugged into digital art and other high-tech programs, thanks to the Irvine Co. and the Leo Freedman Foundation, which have announced their support of a new UC Irvine program.
Called Digital ArtsBridge, the program is designed to interest young students in the digital arts and to help prepare them for growing career opportunities in high-tech firms, according to Jill Beck, dean of the UCI School of the Arts.
“There is a large and growing demand in the entertainment industry, and in the high-tech industry in general, for talented young digital artists. But there is a woefully small supply of qualified candidates,” Beck said.
The Leo Freedman Foundation, named for the late Anaheim real estate developer and philanthropist, donated $30,000 to help the program during its first two years. The Irvine Co. donated $9,000 to support the program in Irvine public schools and will produce a $25,000 video about the program.
