Letters To The Editor

Share

Well, we thought we’d heard the last of the great “Titanic” debate of 1998. But since last Saturday, when we printed James Cameron’s response to a March 28 commentary by Times film critic Kenneth Turan, along with pro and con letters from readers, we’ve really been flooded with dispatches. Additionally, the debate has captured the attention of other media, with reports on news broadcasts and stories by the Washington Post, the New York Times and Associated Press. Here at The Times, we’ve received more than 300 letters, faxes and e-mails since Cameron’s response. Last week, the support was in favor of the director, but this week the tide has turned and the letters break down thus: pro-Turan, 220; pro-Cameron, 63; and 18 neutral missives. The final words (take our word for it) are on F10.
