DNC Fund-Raising

Share

Richard N. Bond’s March 15 Column Right is flat-out wrong. Bond, a former Republican National Committee chairman, claims that the Democratic Party’s fund-raising has been damaged by partisan, political allegations about the president. In his column, Bond claims that the Federal Election Commission is about to release a report that supports his stance. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth.

Democrats throughout the country have rallied around the president. On Jan. 22, the day these allegations surfaced, the average pledge for telephone solicitations was $25.13. On Jan. 27, the day of the State of the Union address, the average pledge jumped to $30.21 and has stayed consistently at that level throughout our telemarketing campaign. Our direct mail fund-raising and telemarketing are double our projections for the first three months of 1998.

As the president’s record approval ratings prove, working Americans recognize all that the president has done for this country.

Democrats see these allegations for what they are: partisan, political attacks on an extraordinarily effective president.
