Lee, Chong Get Upset Victory in Badminton
Ben Lee of San Jose and Andy Chong of Massachusetts won the men’s doubles title at the U.S. Adult National Badminton Championship Sunday at the Orange County Badminton Club.
Lee and Chong upset top-seeded Howard Bach and Mark Manha of Colorado, 15-8, 9-15, 15-10.
In men’s singles, Colorado’s Kevin Han, the nation’s top-ranked player, defeated Bach, 15-10, 15-9, for the championship. Top-seeded Yeping Tang of Maryland won the women’s singles title with a 12-9, 12-9 victory over second-seeded Cindy Shi of Colorado. Shi and Tang teamed in doubles to take the women’s title, beating Kathy Zimmerman of Colorado and Stefanie Westerman of Germany, 15-5, 15-0.

Ocean View’s Pete Montrenes has orally committed to play baseball at USC next year, his father, Daniel, said.
This season in 33 innings, Montrenes has an earned-run average of 1.06, striking out 43 batters and posting a 4-1 record. He was a first-team All-Golden West League selection last season.
