Litton Acquires Information Company

Litton Industries Inc. has acquired for $432 million from Primark Corp. an information technology services company that does work for the national intelligence sector and the Department of Defense.

Last week Litton purchased TASC Inc. from Primark. TASC, which is headquartered in Reading, Mass., had $440 million in revenues last year and has 2,700 employees.

Litton’s chief executive, Michael R. Brown, said the purchase will boost to 35% Litton revenues in its next fiscal year from its information systems business, stemming from both governmental and commercial markets.

Among the services TASC provides is weather information for airlines and the broadcast industry, plus an interactive Web site on the Internet.

Litton named R. Evans Hineman as president of TASC. Hineman held various management posts with the Central Intelligence Agency, including serving as deputy director for science and technology. He retired from government service in 1989.

Litton, headquartered in Woodland Hills, is a major defense contractor.
