A 32-year-old man was shot in the shoulder after an argument Monday evening with a neighbor, authorities said.

Duke Torres, 32, was standing inside his front door in the 44000 block of 26th Street East about 5:30 p.m. arguing with Edward Lara, 25, who lives down the street, said Los Angeles Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Fredericks.

Fredericks said Lara shot Torres through the screen door, the bullet hitting Torres in the shoulder.

Torres was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital. His wound was not considered life-threatening, Fredericks said.

Lara ran away but was caught by deputies in a nearby field and arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, authorities said. A pistol was recovered nearby.

Lara is also wanted on warrants carrying $300,000 in bail, on numerous charges including assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, terrorist threats and other weapons violations, Fredericks said.

Lara was being held Monday night in the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station jail.
