$60 Rebate Offered on Low-Flush Toilets

That old toilet may flush stronger and longer, but at three to seven gallons of water per flush, it counts for 40% of a typical water bill.

The Oak Park Water Service wants to change those numbers, offering $60 rebates to the first 200 Oak Park residents who trade in their conventional toilet for a low-flush model.

“The rebate is our way of saying thanks for adopting a more water-wise way of life,” said Ronald Stark, chairman of Triunfo Sanitation District, which owns Oak Park Water Service.

The new toilets, available since 1992, use 1.6 gallons per flush, he said.

Fliers detailing the toilet rebate program are being mailed to Oak Park Water Service customers. The offer runs through June.

Pre-1992 toilets can be dropped off at the Ventura County Oak Park Fire Station daily between 3 and 7 p.m. Residents must call (818) 597-2954 to schedule a time.

The offer is limited to single-family residences. Tenants in rental property must obtain approval from the owner. There is a limit of two toilets per household, and the rebates will be credited to the customer’s water account. For details, call the Oak Park Water Service at (818) 889-3920.
