Positions Change for School Officials
An administrative reshuffling in the Garden Grove Unified School District has landed three veteran administrators in new positions while two longtime educators will retire at the end of the school year.
The restructuring, announced at the district’s regular school board meeting Tuesday, will take effect July 1.
Carol Patterson, principal of McGarvin Intermediate School in Westminster, has been named to the new position of director of elementary administration, overseeing the district’s 46 elementary schools. She has been in the district for 32 years and principal of McGarvin since 1994.
Peggy Mahfood, principal of Pacifica High School in Garden Grove, has been named director of secondary administration, and will direct the operation of local intermediate and high schools, along with athletic programs and adult and alternative education classes. She joined the district in 1971 and has been at Pacifica since 1995.
Stephanie Paggi, director of 7-12 instruction, has been appointed director of K-12 curricula and instruction, responsible for instructional programs districtwide. Paggi came to the district in 1986 and has been in her present position since 1993.
All three will report to administrator Barbara Barnard, who will become assistant superintendent of educational services on July 1.
Andrew McTaggart, assistant superintendent of secondary education, is retiring June 30 after 35 years in the district. Annelle Arthur, director of elementary instruction, will also retire this summer.
