Hebert Has Shoulder Surgery

Goaltender Guy Hebert underwent reconstructive surgery on his right shoulder Thursday at the Kerlan-Jobe Surgery Center in Los Angeles.

Team doctor Ronald Glousman found cartilage and ligament damage, which Hebert suffered during the second period of a March 8 game against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Hebert, who played in only 46 games this season, is expected to be fit in time for training camp in September.

Hebert said he hopes he hasn’t played his last game as a Duck. It’s possible the team could leave him unprotected in the June expansion draft.

“I would hope what I’ve done here in the last five years would make them like to keep me here,” said Hebert, the last member of the inaugural 1993-94 team. “I look forward to, hopefully, finishing my career here.”

Coach Pierre Page winced when asked if several players were playing for jobs for next season.

“That’s an old cliche and I don’t want to use it,” Page said. “We told the players, ‘Just show us who you are. Help us make decisions.’

“You could see that pride [during the Ducks’ 4-2 victory Wednesday over the Edmonton Oilers].”
