Von Stade in Pops Series

Mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade will kick off the Pacific Symphony’s 1998-99 Pops Series with a program of songs by Cole Porter and George Gershwin on Oct. 23 and 24 at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa.

Concerts are at 8 p.m. at the center. The series:

* Oct. 23-24: Frederica von Stade.

* Nov. 20-21: David Sanborn.

* Dec. 18-19: Christmas program with Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers.

* Feb. 12-13: Burt Bacharach.

* March 5-6: Paul Anka.

* April 16-17: Diane Schuur.

* May 7-8: Art Garfunkel.
