Council to Explore Cleanup Fund Plan
It may be time for Thousand Oaks to clean up its act.
On a 5-0 vote Tuesday night, the City Council agreed to investigate the possibility of creating a “community cleanup endowment fund” that would help residents tidy their own homes and neighborhoods.
As proposed by Councilwoman Judy Lazar, the fund would tap a $1.7-million reserve dedicated to solid waste uses. The money in the fund could cover the cost of hauling a dumpster to a neighborhood for a spring cleaning or pay for large item pickup.
At the request of Councilwoman Linda Parks, city staffers will also look at ways of encouraging composting and the collection of yard trimmings and other “green waste.”
City staffers are scheduled to bring a report on the fund to the council in June.
