Lively Competition at Garden Show

Competition gardens on display at the Southern California Spring Garden Show in Costa Mesa through Sunday include:

* Nature’s Small Oasis, featuring a 12-foot-by-15-foot area transformed by lush foliage plants and water cascading into a koi-filled pond. By Pino Landscape Co. of San Juan Capistrano and Laguna Koi Ponds of Laguna Beach.

* A Garden of Pleasures, featuring a lattice room with a French influence, overlooking a flower meadow. By Trademark Landscapes of Irvine.

* A Midsummer’s Daydream, featuring a woodland setting. By UC Irvine’s landscape architecture department.

* Natural Pleasures, a country garden interpreting the poetry of the Rev. Thomas Fitzgerald. By the Cal Poly Pomona landscape architecture department.

* Perennial Pleasure, an intimate 12-foot-by-15-foot garden with soft colors and finely textured perennials. By Los Robles Club of Cal Poly Pomona horticultural department.
