Hiskey Gets Assist as OCC Clinches Conference Title

Orange Coast freshman Ryan Hiskey broke the college’s single-season assist record as the Pirates defeated visiting Irvine Valley, 15-10, 15-8, 15-4 and clinched the Orange Empire Conference men’s volleyball title Friday night.

Hiskey, who had 45 assists, has 1,028 assists. Mark Pozsgai had 16 kills for the Pirates (20-1, 16-1) who advanced to the state championship.

In another conference match:

Golden West 3, Grossmont 0--Todd Clevenger had 13 kills as Golden West swept Grossmont, 15-4, 15-11, 17-15.

The Rustlers (15-2) face Santa Monica, the third place team from the South Coast Conference, at Golden West Tuesday in the regional playoffs.

In Orange Empire Conference softball:

Orange Coast is 9-22, 0-17.

Fullerton 5, Golden West 3--Marissa Ornelas, who was four for four, and Lindsay Huebner each had RBI singles in the seventh to break a 3-3 tie for Fullerton (21-14, 11-6).

Saddleback 3, Santa Ana 0--Tara Kroener (20-4) pitched a no-hitter with four strikeouts for Saddleback (24-8, 13-4).

In the Orange Empire Conference women’s tennis tournament:

Jaeger wins--Saddleback’s Camella Jaeger upset top-seeded teammate Martha Garcia, 6-2, 6-3, to win the singles title at Irvine Valley.

In the doubles final, Garcia and Denise Poirel defeated Saddleback’s Erika Dommeyer and Amber Howard, 6-4, 6-0.

In the Orange Empire Conference men’s tennis tournament:

Doubles upset--Saddleback’s No. 3 team of Kahled Naffa and John Cappello upset top-seeded J.C. Arzaga and Chris Tobolski of Golden West, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6.
