THE CAFE COOK BOOK

Share

As the culinary Urban Rustic movement took hold in this country over the last 10 years, a similar cooking style was being created simultaneously in London by Ruth Rogers and Rose Gray at their River Cafe, a modern warehouse space in an architect’s complex on the banks of the Thames. Their food is incredible, so intense with flavor that even the most blase food-as-fuel eater must take notice. Through their cookbooks, “Rogers Gray Italian Country Cook Book” and their newest, “The Cafe Cook Book” (Broadway Books, $35), home cooks who shop wisely and buy ingredients in season can recreate many of their dishes. Strong graphics, natural light photos and recipes largely unadorned by meaningless headnotes give the cook at home a good sense of their bold cooking style. Note: If you already own “River Cafe Cook Book Two,” this is simply the American version of that British title.
