Man Shot in Chest During Drive-By
A man who was shot in the chest Tuesday night during an apparent drive-by shooting in south Oxnard was found by police bloodied and running down a residential street looking for help.
The unidentified man, in his 20s, was taken by ambulance to St. John’s Regional Medical Center after the 8 p.m. shooting, said Oxnard Police Sgt. Scott Whitney. The man would not give police his name or assist them in their search for his assailant, Whitney said.
The victim was found running in a neighborhood north of South Winds Park. The shooting apparently occurred on a street corner at Charles Street and Chester Way, Whitney said.
Whitney didn’t know how many times the man had been shot or what type of weapon was used. As of 9 p.m., police were still patrolling the area searching for evidence or witnesses, Whitney said.
“A lot of these are gang shootings,” Whitney said.
The shooting victim was unarmed when police found him. It was unknown if he was a gang member, Whitney said.
The incident marks the second possibly gang-related shooting at a south Oxnard intersection in less than two weeks.
On April 11, 20-year-old John Covarrubias of Oxnard was shot in the hand after he argued with a group of men in the 1200 block of C Street.
