Hearing Set for Today on Village Center Project

Share

A public hearing on the controversial Village Center Westwood project will be held today in front of the city Planning Commission.

The proposed 469,000-square-foot development would include retail shops, restaurants, a supermarket and 3,400 movie theater seats. Opponents of the project say the village has enough movie theaters, and claim the developer’s plan to prohibit vehicle traffic on part of Glendon Avenue will add to the area’s congestion.

The commission will consider whether to approve proposed amendments to the Westwood Village specific plan, as well as a development agreement between the city and developer Village Center Westwood L.P.

City Planner Daniel O’Donnell said Wednesday that if the Planning Commission opts to approve the project Thursday, it will still require final approval from the City Council.

The hearing begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Versailles Room at the Olympic Collection Banquet and Conference Center, 11301 Olympic Blvd.
