The San Diego City Council has reaffirmed its commitment to building a new ballpark for the Padres in Centre City East.

Meanwhile, a conflict was brewing among members of the San Diego Port Commission regarding the 10th Avenue Marine Terminal as a potential stadium site.

The port has undertaken a feasibility study of the marine terminal, site of a $1 billion ballpark proposal.

Some commissioners have expressed concern about the project’s impact on traffic circulation near the waterfront, and they wonder about the structure’s effect on shipping at the terminal.

The San Diego City Council decided Tuesday not to go on record regarding the proposal.

But the council did endorse a recommendation by its land use committee that the Padres, the city and Centre City Development Corp. move forward on devising a design and finance plan for constructing a ballpark on the Centre City East side.

The council is under pressure to put together a plan by early June so that the matter can undergo public review and be placed on the November ballot.
