School Trustees Seek Funds for Textbooks

Share

Citing a dramatic increase in textbook prices over the past decade, trustees in the Capistrano Unified School District are urging state officials to spend more for high school materials.

Trustees, who recently adopted a resolution asking for the increased funding, said textbooks for high school students cost from $55 to $75 each, plus tax and shipping costs. But the district continues to receive $19 per student to buy new books. The district makes up the difference using money from its general fund.

The district will spend $257,819 from its general fund to buy an additional 4,974 textbooks needed to meet demands of 829 new high school students next year.
