Trial Set for Teacher Accused of Making Up Excrement Story

A trial date has been set in the case of a Compton high school teacher who said students last summer emptied two waste baskets filled with excrement on her.

In a hearing Friday, Municipal Court Judge Ellen C. DeShazer set a May 20 trial date for Shannan Barron, who is charged with one misdemeanor count of filing a false police report.

Compton police who investigated the matter concluded that Barron lied about the alleged July, 1997, incident at Dominguez High School and that excrement found on her clothing was her own. Barron maintains that she has been telling the truth.

Barron’s attorney, Angelyn Gates, said results of a laboratory blood-typing test show that the excrement belonged to someone with type B blood. Barron has type A blood, Gates said.

The district attorney’s office is having an independent lab test done, Deputy Dist. Atty. Garie Lynn Oehler said.
