Jeromy Burnitz put Milwaukee in front with a three-run homer and Geoff Jenkins homered in his major league debut as the Brewers rallied past the slumping San Francisco Giants, 7-5, Friday night at San Francisco.

Orel Hershiser (0-2) remained winless in five starts for the Giants, who acquired him as a free agent. He struggled with his control throughout a five-inning outing, walking five and giving up six runs and six hits.

Scott Karl (3-0) surrendered four runs in the first two innings but then settled down to allow one run over the next 4 1/3 innings, helping the Brewers win their first game in San Francisco.

Doug Jones pitched the ninth for his eighth save.

The Brewers have won all four meetings against the Giants in their inaugural NL campaign, having swept a three-game set at County Stadium last weekend.

San Francisco has lost seven of eight.

Hershiser was protecting a 4-2 lead in the fifth when he issued consecutive walks to Jeff Cirillo and Jose Valentin.

Burnitz then drove a 1-1 pitch over the center-field wall for his seventh homer. His 22 RBIs in April match Rob Deer’s franchise record for the month set in 1987.

Jenkins, batting .403 at Triple-A Louisville before his recall earlier Friday in place of injured John Jaha, singled in his first big league at-bat. One out after Burnitz’ shot, he connected on a 2-1 pitch from Hershiser for his first homer.

Karl allowed eight hits over 6 1/3 innings. Chad Fox relieved with one out in the seventh after Barry Bonds connected for his fourth homer.
