Golf Course Vote

Share

On April 28th, the controversial issue of a golf course in the Tujunga Wash comes before the City Council one more time for a vote (“City Council Meeting Set for Local Site,” March 26). At this point, I do not think the main issue is any longer environmental. Council members traded off that concern by changing their votes to curry favor with the unions. The main issue now is money.

As a taxpayer, I am incensed at the probable consequences of a “no” vote. City dollars only stretch so far; services already suffer from lack of funds. The council is putting the taxpayer in jeopardy of paying for the $215-million lawsuit plus the undetermined cost of a lengthy court battle. The city can’t afford it.

The transparent actions of council members in voting to reject the golf course last year have undermined any confidence I may have had that they base decisions on the merits of issues. And I do not want to foot the bill so council members can advance their political careers by winning union votes.

What is so great about golf courses anyway? I find it offensive that this natural habitat may be endangered so that a relative few can swing a club on a perfectly manicured lawn.

As for 50 jobs being created, what impact can this have in a city of millions?
