Dr. Allen’s Inspiration Is Always Front-Page

Kathleen Doheny or maybe the headline writer got it correct in calling Dr. Ethan Allen “A Rare Breed” (March 23).

The article outlined in an exceptional way the model physician Dr. Allen is and always has been.

For four years I was one of his patients as well as one of his pastors. Not only did he uphold the highest standards of the medical profession, he also invested himself as a committed Christian in the spiritual nurturing of young lives and young families. As a member of First United Methodist Church of Whittier, he even invested in his pastor’s continued education.

I know the focus of the article was on a doctor who makes house calls in an HMO era. But there is so much more to this man of faith, character and medicine. He made the front page of the once-a-week Health section, but Dr. Allen is front-page material, period.
