Bloomberg News

Borland International Inc. said it will introduce new application software and its reorganized services unit on Wednesday as it refocuses its strategy for growth. Chief Executive Delbert Yocam also said the maker of tools to develop software programs is seeking acquisitions to enhance its product line, gain new technology and build its services unit. Yocam said he hopes to acquire another company within six months. Borland is trying to focus on software programming tools and software to manage applications after struggling for years to overcome product delays, management turmoil and competition from Microsoft Corp. in the desktop software market. Yocam said the company also is concentrating on its “middleware” products that link software that runs on different computer systems, an area it entered by acquiring Visigenic Software Inc. in November. Borland shares rose $1.34 to close at $10.81 on Nasdaq.
