Truck Mishap Forces Road Closure for Repairs
The northbound Harbor Freeway connector to the eastbound Artesia Freeway was closed for several hours Tuesday so Caltrans workers could patch a hole caused by a truck that overturned Monday and dropped a metal coil on the road.
California Highway Patrol Officer John Tye said the metal spill put a 4-by-6-foot hole in a road that connects the two freeways. Tye said the hole was so big that “you could look down and see Figueroa,” the street than runs below it.
Tye said the single-vehicle accident took place Monday at 11:50 a.m. when driver Jimmy Hernandez of Ontario allegedly lost control of his flatbed truck and it flipped over. Hernandez, 18, was not injured.
