Anti-Semitic Leaflets Found in Mailboxes

Residents in the Kanan Road area of Agoura reported receiving anti-Semitic fliers in their mailboxes earlier this week, said Capt. Bill McSweeney of the Malibu-Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station.

The incident is being investigated as a hate crime, said Lt. Ken Fowler, commander of the station’s detective bureau, adding that no suspects have been identified. He said he did not know how many fliers were received.

Fowler said the one-page, typed information looked as though it was downloaded from the Internet. The fliers contained an Internet address and telephone number for a group outside California that Fowler declined to name, citing the continuing investigation.

“We’re investigating it as a hate crime because we cannot tolerate this kind of behavior in our area, or anywhere for that matter,” Fowler said.

The decision to prosecute the leafleting as a hate crime would be up to the district attorney.

Residents on several streets in the vicinity received the fliers, but there appeared to be no pattern to the distribution, Fowler said. Both Jewish and non-Jewish families received the fliers, he said.
