35 Injured in N. Ireland Car Bombing
A car bomb exploded Saturday in a mostly Protestant town, wounding 35 people and shattering shop windows.
None of the injuries was serious. Police said all the victims were treated at a hospital and released, except for a shopkeeper and a police officer who were held overnight.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the blast in Banbridge, 22 miles southwest of Belfast, but police said there had been a warning, and the area was being cleared when the device exploded outside a shoe store.
The explosion comes as Northern Ireland struggles to implement a new peace agreement developed by the major parties in the province as well as the Irish Republic and the British government.
The plan is aimed at ending a quarter century of violence.
