Pacific Coast Highway Work May Lead to Traffic Breaks

Share

Depending on how much fog rolls in today, the California Highway Patrol may run traffic breaks again on Pacific Coast Highway as a helicopter shuttles more cable mesh netting to a slope above the seaside road.

The breaks on PCH would be run between Big Rock Drive and Las Flores Canyon Road. The 100-foot-long nets being dropped in that area will be woven together to keep rocks from tumbling on the traffic below, Caltrans spokeswoman Margie Tiritilli said.

The closures may begin as early as 7 a.m. and continue until 4:30 p.m. if fog doesn’t ground the helicopter. A northbound lane will be shut down to accommodate a crane that will help lift the nets. Final cleanup of the project is set for Friday.
