Dog May Be Moved to New Home in Seattle

The owner of Cheyenne, one of the dogs accused of killing or maiming four sheep in Ojai, may have found a home for the animal, who is being held at the Camarillo Animal Shelter.

Joan Lemper, who has owned the husky mix since a family vacation last year in Oregon, learned Thursday that her daughter had found a young couple in Seattle who want the dog.

“I’m very happy about it because I know these kids,” Lemper said. “They are very animal-oriented.”

Cheyenne and another dog, Bear, are believed to be responsible for the mauling of the sheep, which were owned by another Ojai family. Bear was euthanized Monday.

Because there has been no formal legal action against Lemper, she is free to pick up Cheyenne and move the dog north, said Kathy Jenks, director of the Animal Regulations Department. Jenks will, however, file the name of the new owner and the dog’s history with the animal control department in Seattle.

“I’m very glad for the dog’s sake that it’s having a good outcome,” Jenks said. “This will work out well for everybody.”
