ANGELS REPORT

If you’ve been impressed with rookie Troy Glaus so far--he’s batting .318 with three doubles and four runs batted in during his first six major league games--Trevor Wilson says you haven’t seen anything yet.

Wilson, a veteran left-hander who was pitching in triple-A Vancouver when Glaus came up from double-A Midland in late May, says the rookie third baseman will be adjusting to big-league pitching for a while.

“When he first got [to Vancouver], everything slowed down for him, both at the plate and defensively,” Wilson said. “I think it took him a couple of weeks to get used to the pitching in triple-A and to settle in.

“Then he started to look more polished. He never looks like he’s getting fooled. He never seems to be chasing bad pitches. And he just started smashing balls. Some of the homers he hit were incredible bombs.”

Wilson, who spent most of his seven seasons in the major leagues as a starter for the Giants, did not pitch in 1996 or ’97 after undergoing rotator cuff surgery in September 1995.

He revived his career in Vancouver, where he went 5-9 with a 3.62 ERA before the Angels recalled him Sunday. He’s in the bullpen now, where his job will be to come in to face selected left-handers.
